The British edition of The Telegraph amounted to list of outstanding sights of Europethat you should definitely visit at least once in your life - enjoy nature, touch history or just relax and change the atmosphere. The list also included the tourist centers of Russia - Red Square was in 14th place, and the Hermitage - in 29th. And this is the top 10 main European attractions according to The Telegraph.

  • 10. Atlantic Road, Norway
  • 9. Chenonceau Castle, Loire Department, France
  • 8. Matterhorn, Switzerland
  • 7. Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey
  • 6. Semana Santa, Spain
  • 5. Pamukkale, Turkey
  • 4. Acropolis, Greece
  • 3. Sistine Chapel, Italy
  • 2. Holy Family Cathedral, Barcelona, Spain
  • 1. Var, France

10. Atlantic Road, Norway

Part of the national tourist road number 64 connects a series of rocky islands off the coast of Norway. The bridges themselves are an interesting architectural sight (especially the so-called “drunk” bridge). But the surrounding species amaze with the harsh northern beauty - the dark sea, dazzling snow peaks, and if you are lucky, you can see whales swimming by.

9. Chenonceau Castle, Loire Department, France

The beautiful castle, located on a bridge over the Cher River, was once built by King Henry II for his favorite, Diana de Poitiers. It was as if he had left the pages of a fairy tale, and even children (it’s no secret that children rarely have reverence for architectural monuments) will be happy to look inside. Going on a bus tour of Europe, be sure to visit France.

8. Matterhorn, Switzerland

A trip to the top of the Matterhorn is recommended only to the most experienced climbers. Therefore, it is better to enjoy views of the magnificent snowy peak from Zermatt, one of the most famous resorts in Switzerland. A pyramidal mountain with a height of 4,478 meters obeyed a man only 150 years ago and cost the pioneers of four human lives.

7. Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey

Once Hagia Sophia was a Christian church, then, after the conquest of Constantinople, it became a mosque, and now it is a museum (although all the same, calls for prayers are heard several times a day from minarets). Inside the huge building, you can see the remains of a brilliant Byzantine mosaic and masterpieces of Arabic calligraphy.

6. Semana Santa, Spain

Semana Santa is Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter. During this time, many religious processions took place in Catholic Spain. It is as if figures in spiky hoods that have reached us from the depths of the Middle Ages carry platforms from the church to the church with figures depicting scenes from biblical history.

5. Pamukkale, Turkey

This bizarre natural monument resembles a series of giant steps - stone pools filled with bright blue water. Nearby is the ancient city of Hierapolis. True, admiring the miracle of nature can be spoiled by endless crowds of tourists: Pamukkale is one of the most visited attractions in Turkey.

4. Acropolis, Greece

Almost three million people visit this historical monument with antiquity in 26 centuries each year. It is worth a glimpse there at night when the Parthenon is flooded with golden light against a dark southern sky.

3. Sistine Chapel, Italy

Michelangelo's masterpiece masterpiece is located in the Apostolic Palace in Rome. The fresco depicting the Last Judgment occupies the entire wall behind the altar, and a ceiling measuring 40 by 13 meters is covered with biblical paintings.

2. Holy Family Cathedral, Barcelona, Spain

Although the construction of the cathedral, designed by Gaudi at the end of the 19th century, has not been completed so far, it is a magnificent sight. And on the surrounding streets are houses erected by the same architect with candy windows, as if straight from a fairy tale.

1. Var, France

And the leader in the ranking of attractions that are recommended to be seen at least once in a lifetime is the area called Var, one of the administrative units of the Provence region, France. Var is considered one of the most beautiful places in France, and yet in this country there is something to see. The greenish-blue waters of Gorges du Veron, luxurious lavender fields, tiny stone houses hiding in the folds of hilly terrain, winding serpentine roads ... And, of course, hotels and guest houses where you can dine, enjoy the views, relax from the crowds of the city and enjoy the real Provence .
