Almost 70 percent the most innovative companies in the world in 2017 were American last year. These are the results of a new study by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), an international consulting company and a leading global business strategy consultant.
Apple, Google, Tesla, Microsoft, Amazon and Netflix took the top six places in the annual survey of 1,500 managers from the 50 largest companies from different countries.
Apple leads the BCG hit parade for the 11th consecutive year, which is not surprising given the tremendous funds that the corporation devotes to research and development. In 2016, the consumer electronics giant spent $ 10 million on these goals (according to published statistics for the fiscal year that ended September 24).
Google, thanks to its “20 percent” tactic, which encourages employees to allocate 20 percent of their time to third-party projects, has held second place in the top 50 most innovative companies for the third year in a row.
Two Asian companies immediately became leaders in the ranking of global innovating companies: the South Korean Samsung Group at number seven and the Japanese Toyota Motor in eighth position. In total, the list includes six Asian players in the innovation market.
More European companies - as many as ten, including Bayer at number 11, BMW at number 14 and Damler at number 16.
But Russian companies are not on the BCG list.
The most successful innovators today maintain a strategic balance between internal and external innovation. They are smart and effective in seeking out external ideas, and deftly put them into practice.
A BCG study found that most powerful innovators use an analytical approach to the pursuit of new ideas. 65 percent of new ideas the most successful innovative companies managed to find on social networks and thanks to the intellectual analysis of big data. Outsiders of the rating share of such ideas is 14%.
