These disgusting examples of senseless cruelty never cease to horrify even years later. Terrorist acts cause damage, first of all, to the psychological state of people. While the country's economy is recovering from the consequences of a terrorist attack over several months, the sense of insecurity among the civilian population has not disappeared for years.

10. Explosions in Kakhtania (08/14/2007, Iraq)

The city of Kakhtanya, populated by Yezidi Kurds belonging to a religious minority, was chosen as the target of terrorists who blew up 4 fuel trucks with explosives. At least 500 people were injured in the explosions.

9. Explosions in London (07.07.2005 and 07.21.2005, Great Britain)

The first four explosions in the London Underground claimed the lives of 52 people, injuring another 700. The second series of attacks, fortunately, cost no casualties. All surviving terrorists were brought to justice.

8. The terrorist act in Beslan (September 1, 2004 - September 3, 2004, Russia)

One of the most brutal terrorist attacks in history. For more than two days, terrorists held hostage about 1,100 people, mostly children. As a result of the attack, 334 people were killed, of which 186 were children. The only surviving terrorist was sentenced to life imprisonment.

7. A series of explosions in Iraq (06/24/2004, Iraq)

A series of bombings and attacks on police stations affected five cities in the country. Killed more than 70 people, dozens were seriously injured.

6. Terrorist attacks in Madrid (03/11/2004, Spain)

Held 3 days before the parliamentary elections. As a result of four explosions in electric carriages, 191 people were killed and 2050 passengers were injured. It is noteworthy that the bombings took place exactly 911 days after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States.

5. Explosions in the Moscow metro (02/06/2004 and 03/29/2010, Russia)

In 2004, 41 people died and 250 were injured through the death of a suicide bomber. In 2010, two explosions killed 41 people as well, 88 people were injured. Doku Umarov claimed responsibility for the latest attack.

4. Terrorist attacks in Istanbul (11/15/2003 and 20/20/2003, Turkey)

As a result of the first attack, suicide bombers killed 25 people in injured cars, injuring more than 300. Five days later, as a result of a series of explosions, another 28 people died and 450 were injured. Al-Qaeda, as well as the Islamic radical group Front of Islamic Conquerors of the Great East, claimed responsibility for the attacks.

3. Terrorist attack on Dubrovka (“Nord-Ost”) (10.23.2002 - 10.26.2002, Russia)

A group of armed terrorists held 916 people for several days in the building of a recreation center of OJSC Moscow Bearing. As a result of the operation of power structures, all the militants were liquidated. According to official statistics, 130 hostages died. Shamil Basayev claimed responsibility for the attack.

2. Terrorist acts in Bali (10/12/2002, Indonesia)

The largest attack in the history of Indonesia claimed the lives of 202 people, 164 of whom were foreigners. Responsible for the three explosions was the radical organization Jemaah Islamia. Three organizers were sentenced to death.
